  1. I think you fall into the trap of trying to win over an opponent more than you try to unravel the truth. This is not an objective take on the matter. There are for sure problems with publishing, scientific journals, peer review, corruption, etc. and this is currently being debated in the scientific community. In response, EU legislates that scientific publications and related data must be made publically available. Journals are also now required to ask authors for conflicts of interest in order to counter corruption. You may argue that your opponent exaggerates, but he also brings attention to some real issues.
