  2. A typical poll has a sample size of 1000 adults which yields a margin of error of about 3%. Since the adult population in US is about 165 million, you should expect to be picked once every 165,000th poll. Does the sample size seem small? You've got a bag of a 165 million grains of sand. If you pick 1000 grains of which 650 are graphite, it is very unlikely that the actual composition of the bag is outside the 3% margin of error (62-68%).
