I said "1 in 17 women who undergoes that surgery". Assuming they all have a 6% risk of getting post-surgery cancer, 1 in 17 would statistically get cancer. Of course, if only 17 women get that surgery, it's not that unlikely that the actual cancer frequency falls outside of what's expected, but this doesn't mean that the probability drops.

1/17 = 0.0588 ~= 0.06 (6%) It's not exactly 6%, I just expressed the probability in terms that are easier to grasp.

I can sortof see what you mean, but I would refrain from expressing a probability in terms of abstract sample sizes. The study that percentage comes from has known sample size which determines the accuracy of the conclusion.

6% is pretty much zero? It means 1 in 17 women who undergoes that surgery get cancer. That's actually quite high. Way better than 87% though.

Neither do you apparently.
