I realize the video uses a polymer binder instead of laser sintering to create the porous pre-product... but you get the picture.

Sure, if you have the CAD files of the product you don't need to scan it, but companies usually don't just hand out their blueprints like they are candy, if it's not very standardized components.

I just googled it. It's quite common actually. I even suspect that the powder they made the wrench from in this video was actually ceramic, eventhough Ana implied it's polymer.

You can print metals through, but the process is a bit more complicated. First you create a porous model through laser sintering metal powder (similar to how they produced the wrench shown in this video). Then you make it absorb molten metal like a sponge to make it solid. Here's an example: /watch?v=i6Px6RSL9Ac

Take a chill pill. It was just a question. There's no need to go defensive.

The resolution of 3D printers is not that great, meaning the surface of the product is rough, and tiny and thin parts can be a problem. Since a gun is made of several different materials, and that printers are designed to print specific materials, you would need a range of printers to print a gun. This also means that there's not that many printing materials available, and that the gun probably has to be redesigned according to the properties of these. ...but I guess it's a matter of time.

I give you that one.

Plastic guns? I hope they are wise enough to at least use ceramics. Plastics are not known for their heat resistance.
