The thing about scientists is that they leave old ideas behind when superior ones come around. The average world fertility was halfed in 50 years (1950-2000). Most projections on population growth predicts it will level out (or peak) at 9-11 billion people at some point between 2050 and 2100. /wiki/Projections_of_population_growth

At the moment, all but ~10 countries have a positive GDP growth rate, and GDP growth rate have a negative correlation with fertility rate. /wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/43/TFR_vs_PPP_2009.svg/720px-TFR_vs_PPP_2009.svg.png In general, when people are better off, they produce less children.
