A crucial element is left out from the discussion in this piece: "Prison administrators have pointed out that some people in segregation are allowed cellmates and thus are not "solitary." In Logan, for instance, prison watchdog group the John Howard Association found that 92 of the 99 women in segregation shared cells with one other person (a term known as double-celling). In California's women's prisons, only two of the 158 women in Administrative Segregation and four of the 78 women in the Security Housing Unit were in cells alone; the others are double-celled." In the short documentary they say the subject was in the "SHU" 60 days which they falsely equate with solitary confinement for and suggest through illustrations that she was alone in her cell. However they never explicitly elaborate on whether she was actually alone. Considering the above statistics and the fact that the subject seems to have been more concerned for the condition of her skin and hair and not having a TV at night than the lack of human contact, I find it likely that the subject shared those 60 days with a bunkmate.
