"The whole purpose of women - according to him - is to reproduce, and if you don't reproduce you're an idiot. So how is is that these idiots can have high IQ?" The way Ana puts it, it sounds like complete nonsense. I think it's a legitimate question: The theory of evolution states that the gene pool of a population should drift towards increased likelihood of successful reproduction. So if high IQ leads to less probability of reproduction, how the hell did we get smart in the first place?

I haven't read his work, but as far as I can tell he completely disregard the necessity of reaching sexual maturity, which when you look at the evolutionary history of our ancestors was surely a greater struggle than getting children once capable. So survival was a greater "incentive" than reproduction. I mean what's the evolutionary benefit of having great desire to have children, if you never reach sexual maturity? None.

Yeah, intelligent parenting should be enough to justify your correction. I didn't think about that. I don't think that intelligent species necessarily rule the planet. I mean, in terms of both biomass and numbers, I think bacteria comes out on top, and are we really as much in control of the planet as we think we are? It gets even more complicated when you consider that we live in symbiosis with some bacteria. We are depending on them, and they are depending on us. :)

There's no reason to tie TYT's juvenility to liberalism. Equivalents can be found among all ideologies.

That was only my clarification of the paradox. I could not fit my take on it, so I wrote that in a separate comment. My logic was pretty much the same as yours: that it seem as though he completely disregards the first step towards reproduction: to reach sexual maturity. Looking at our evolutionary history, this has surely been the greater struggle. However, I don't believe this is true in a modern society, where most people reach sexual maturity.

Why anyone would consider marking your comment as spam, I can not tell. YouTube users work in mysterious ways.

Yeah, that was my first thought too. Read my other comments.

I find it perfectly reasonable that intelligence would decrease likelihood of reproduction for many reasons. Increased intelligence leads to... * Greater likelihood of challenging assumptions and societal expectations (such as women's supposed duty to be mothers). * Greater control of sex life (less likely to get pregnant by accident) * Increased preoccupation with reaching long term goals (such as career). I think it's his reasoning and conclusions that are flawed, not his observations.

Also: "Successful reproduction isn't the goal, successful offspring is." And by "successful offspring" you mean offspring that succeed in reproduction, right? Hence, is it really necessary to make this distinction?
