Because this is an American news channel, not a turkish History channel.

Wikipedia says: "An official Iranian statement released on August 9, 2005 at the Vienna meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) claimed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had issued a fatwa forbidding the production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons.[2]" Now the important part: "The text of the alleged fatwa has never been released and therefore its existence cannot be confirmed." I think this is one of the reasons it haven't got much media attention, don't you think?

You think a fatwa from the religious leader of an Islamic theocracy is negligible?

His position relied on the fact that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. I'm not sure this is true, but I'm pretty sure Hitchens had access to more information than I do. He's met and had conversations with the Ayatolla's little brother Hadi Khamenei, an influential critiziser of the regime. I think he certainly had good reasons for beliving Iran was developing nuclear weapons.

Ok that was ignorant of me, but still, it's _American_ news. Iran, China, Russia, Israel. All are hot topics. It seem like news coverage is proportional to the foreign nations' arsenal.

It's funny that Cenk encourages the audience too "look it up", and when I do, I find out that the fatwa was never released. All we got is an assertion.
