Assuming the ice floats and is not supported by any sea floor, the ice displaces just as much water as it weighs, thus the sea level will remain constant after it melts, not drop.

Basically, the 'extra' volume the ice occupies is above the water surface.

I did not imply ice and water have the same density. I just pointed out that the volume of water the ice displaces when it floats is equal to the volume it will 'shrink' into as it melts. (neglecting the higher density of salt water)

We're past the point where we're able to stop global warming. It's time we prepare for the consequences.

Unfortunately the Arctic and especially the Antarctic glaciers are partially supported by ground structure thus displaces less water than its weight. The sea level will rise.

They do care, but unless they can find a way to commercialize their care, competition forces them not to.
