  1. I just read an article emphasising on the distinction between good and bad regulation. One example was a comparison between how USA and Scandinavia regulated bleeching in the pulp paper industry. In USA they implemented an immediate fine, forcing the entire industry to panic and implement the best technology available at the time. In Scandinavia they warned the industry in advance of an upcoming small fine that would be increased each year for a decade. Instead of implementing the first technology at hand, they started preparing and innovating, gaining competitive advantages over the US competitors. Good regulation rewards innovation and punishes stagnation.

  3. MrApplewine No, I wasn't comparing pros and cons, I was comparing two rather distinct types of regulation. Murder is a specific type of illegal killing, so that's a bad analogy. It would be more like comparing two types of killing where one is bad and one is good, and yes I would argue that there are circumstances where killing another human being is moral.
