I suspect you're joking, but assuming you're not, here's my response: Yeah like it's super easy to just turn internet into an intranet on a national level. What happens to all the Iranian companies who are using foreign servers for storage, processing, backups, etc. What happens to all the companies who use internet as a platform to do global business?

Well then you're just stupid, because most arabs are muslims.

1st: Abdullah isn't iranian name, because it is arab. You: It's not arab, because it refers to muslim god. Me: Name of muslim origin does not necessitate usage in every muslim country. [Thus does not make it Iranian] You: [repeat] Me: [repeat] You: [repeat] Me: Most arabs are muslims [thus the name can be of both origins] thus you're both stupid. You: Actually... Your argument was that "Abdallah" must be an Iranian name because most Iranians are Muslims and the name refers to the Muslim God. I questioned your reasoning by pointing out that there are christian nations where the name "Christian" is not common. Again, just because a name has an Islamic origin does not mean it's necessarily a common name in every Islamic country.

Oh, and manipulating DNS servers isn't really to create an intranet. The internet is still there. All people need to do is use a foreign DNS server.

Because isolation is unwise in a global economy.

Arabic is indeed a language. Was he specific in that it is _no more than_ a language? If yes: words does not dictate reality. If he said "apple" was only a fruit, does this make "apple" cease to be the brand and a corporation? If "Arab" is an identity and a culture to millions of people, then it is just so. The oppinion of one man does not change this fact.

"Forms are completed online or at least on forms in PDF format. Schools and colleges couldn't operate without the internet for teaching, collecting assignments and paying school fees." I think that would still be possible. Remember that we're talking about the transition to a national intranet, not the abolishing of networks whatsoever. But yeah, it will be devastating to the Iranian economy. Perhaps they intend to do like china and just apply extensive filtering, surveillance and regulation?

No. I'm not telling you that there are no Iranian muslim abdullahs. I'm telling you that your arguments are invalid.

So you're saying Christian is a common name in all christian nations? Just because it's a name has religious origin doesn't mean there can't be local preferences.

Yeah, it's easy to just cut all cross boarder flow of information, but dealing with the consequences that follows are not. I'm pretty sure this is what Cenk refers to. What will happen to all the companies who rely on internet to do global business? What will happen to all companies who use foreign solutions for data storage, backup, processing, etc.? What will happen to all companies who outsource certain functions to foreign companies (eg. billing, transactions, administration, etc.)?

I'm just saying that a lonewolf will have a hard time competing with a pack. Globalization is not pushed by mysterious rich men in suit. It's an observed phenomena, caused by a never so fast and never so cheap flow of products, people, information and money.
