You're actually living with grave misconceptions that shape your thought process, values and world view, as was obvious from your first comment. It's not healthy. That many do it does not make it any better, only more socially accepted.

  5. rell relle I didn't say people meditate to get away from reality, I said people get away from reality as a mean for meditation. Meditation usually involves isolating the mind from sensory input or distractions, that's what I meant by "escape from reality". I also didn't say meditation is unhealthy, I said your particular meditation exercise is unhealthy, because you fail to see it as only such. Sure, meditation can help you learn about yourself and possibly something about others assuming they are similarly wired, but please understand that you simply cannot learn something new about the outside world by looking inwards, only derive conclusions from what's already in there. It is therefore important that your internal model of the world corresponds well to reality before you start your meditation, otherwise you will likely come to the wrong conclusions.
