  1. ***** Nature have 'designed' us to trick our self into having children against our best interest. Now that we are aware of this and have learned how to reap the reward without suffer the consequences it is only natural that we have less children. I don't necessarily think this is terrible. Nature will balance things out. If we don't figure out how to solve this problem ourselves (e.g. technologically or socially), under-population will eventually bring us right back to mindless unprotected sex and raising children to gain cheap labor.

  2. Looking at world statistics there's a clear relation between GDP/capita and total fertility rate. Men rejecting the family life because of unrealistic expectations of them is certainly a factor, but it is intellectually dishonest to just throw all other factors out the window because you find it ideologically convenient. Researchers on this topic are unanimous in that the relation cannot be attributed to a single mechanism.
