TheSpiritOfTheTimes I hope you understand that you are claiming 49 out of 50 European governments pay ransoms and that those articles discuss 7: France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Switzerland. Articles simply discussing "European countries" can not be considered serious. I even doubt all European nations have had any hostage situations to respond to.
1
TheSpiritOfTheTimes It would mean that not all (far from all) European governments except UK pay ransoms.

nickmeistersa Your claim has substance in case of Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Turkey. These are far from all 50 European countries and it must be noted that these are allegations. Try not to generalize.
1
Kastor Rodriguez What I mean by "substance" is that news articles exist with specific allegations, not that the Spanish government is necessarily guilty of said allegations. For example: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/30/world/africa/ransoming-citizens-europe-becomes-al-qaedas-patron.html

Prophet MoHAM Sandwich Well, they are social democracies. Some aspects of socialism are adopted. This isn't necessarily something bad though.

nickmeistersa What USA really needs is strong unions. I wonder if media will ever allow Americans to understand this.
1
Prophet MoHAM Sandwich Of course, but I'm obviously referring to those that fit the description.
1
Prophet MoHAM Sandwich Are you really asking me for examples of social democracies in Europe? Well, the Nordic countries are usually the text-book examples. What elements are socialism have they adopted? Well that's a hard question since socialism is rather vaguely defined, but I'd suggest the emphasis on the welfare state, the degree of public responsibility for individuals, public ownership, redistribution of wealth and the tendency towards flat organization models, and low class and income disparity.
1
Prophet MoHAM Sandwich Well pardon me, but it was examples of social democracies you asked me to provide. There are no pure socialist nations in Europe as there are no pure capitalist nations in Europe. I provided examples of elements of the Nordic model that can be considered socialist. If you want me to find you a pure socialist nation I can't, because it doesn't exist.
1
Prophet MoHAM Sandwich You asked nickmeistersa to provide examples of socialist nations. I pointed out that Europe is mostly social democracies, which has elements of socialism. Then you asked me to provide examples. This is what I did, nothing else. I don't care about who's right or wrong. I care about discerning the state of reality.
