Right, so racism was invented in 14th century to excuse profitable slave trade. But why didn't it fade away along with the slave trade?

@DJWESG1 Yeah, I think you're right. My point is that John Biewen seems to suggest that the reason racism stays with us is the same as the reason it was first invented, which I don't agree with. I think it has evolved into something else, and like you say, has become intertwined with religion, identity, language, culture, etc. Not so much about profit anymore I think.

@dollcrazy300 While I agree that there is systematic exploitation of prisoners as labor, that this has caused problematic incentives to keep prison population high, and that black men are overrepresented in prisons, I don't buy that this is the primary reason racism does not fade away.

@dollcrazy300 Race/identity politics are certainly used as a distraction from generall issues of social class and income/wealth inequality.
