  1. The focus on behavior comes from a scientific perspective: behaviorism. It's not considered reliable to study people based on how they selfdescribe their internal state. This requires that the person is aware of, is able to and is willing to articulate their internal state, thus may miss subconscious or hidden components. The way the internal state reveals itself through behavior is considered more reliable because it comes naturally and can be observed passively without influencing the person.
