  1. Patrick comes off as really naive here. In a dreamworld, capitalism works the way he describes. In the real world, capitalists desceive, manipulate, exploit, and leverage their power to benefit themselves at the expense of others. Big pharma is in direct competition with the human immune system and health. They rather keep us vulnerable and dependent than healthy and resilient. Tobacco industry convinced people it was healthy and suppressed information to the contrary. Sugar industry convinced us lipids are worse. Polymer industry dumped poisons into the water supply causing birthdefects and cancer. Petroleum industry spread lead across the globe, actively tried to suppress information about its harms. Weapons manufacturers actively lobby for war. Etc.
