  2. It seems Dennis don't really believe in God, but thinks we should all assume God exist because of the positive effects he believes this has on society.

  3. He's basically describing God as a placebo effect. It would be odd for a physician to believe a drug is real while being aware that its effects relate to the patients beliefs about it rather than its actual chemistry.
