  1. I feel like these guys are beating up a straw-man crafted by ignorant Americans. Central to the Swedish model is the belief that the state can be used to free the individual by promoting autonomy and social mobility: basically an attempt to materialize "the american dream" through institutional means. It's a belief that individuals are more productive if given tools to improve themselves.
