For over a century, the west, led by UK and US has gone around the world opening up markets and natural resources to exploitation of western companies under the flag of freedom and democracy, often using military force. If we close our boarders to China in fear of competition we should not be surprised if they call us hypocrites and adopt a similar strategy.
