This reflects a shift in strategy from prevention to suppression, i.e. buying trucks and airplanes rather than responsible management of forested areas. The problem with suppression is that the success of one year carries over increased risk to the next due to build-up of fuel for the fire."

  2. Greece has been in deep economic crisis since 2008 and have implemented austerity measures in accordance with IMF conditions. I wonder how much this affected their preparedness for fighting wildfires, and whether this has been taken account before attributing them to global warming.
