This captures something about today's society that I find so frustrating. The key to human success was never that we were particularly well adapted to our environment. Humans thrived because we began to understand that we can instead change the environment to suit us. Yet I feel that most people today take the system we have created for ourselves as some kind of universal law. It's to the point where changing the system to better serve us is viewed as lazy or cheating. Everywhere pragmatics go "In today's world, we must do this and that to survive". No we mustn't! If the system does not serve us, we can change or replace it.

Well we can create unbrella concepts that enable fairly accurate predictions for practical use, but this doesn't mean we understand what's really going on and why. Eg. we understand that two positively charged particles repell eachother with a force which magnitude is relative to the distance in between, but we don't really understand why they repell eachother and why the scaling of the force is as it is.

Energy is not produced in our universe. Many cosmologists suspect that if you add togeather all energy in the universe, you'll get zero.

I don't know whether that's good or bad.
