"The rapid rise of China has made other top research nations (US, UK, Germany, France, and Japan) gradually lose their shares, first in numbers of publications, then in citations, and now in highly cited works." Also, about a fifth of students at Harvard are Chinese. That seems like a poor strategy for Harvard if China's education system produces hopelessly uninventive people. This is a recent development. It takes time to turn science into technology. But I expect their innovation output to rise soon.
