  6. It is true that gender has biological basis and these biological differences leads to noticeable behavioral tendencies. However, it is also true that some of the characteristics we attribute to gender are socially constructed and can be constraining for a person who diverge from the norm (such as Debra feeling "masculine"). Since it is often difficult to draw a line between what is innate and what is socially constructed, we better remind ourselves that gender should be descriptive and not prescriptive. That is: people shouldn't behave according to their gender, their gender should be defined by how they behave.
