I cannot help but think of an old joke. Two planets meet. "You look terrible, what's wrong?" "I have homo sapiens" "Ah, don't worry. It will pass"

The Apollo Program put the US at the pinnacle of progress. Not only in technology. Of course metallurgy, propulsion and computers benefitted enormously from the space program. But even more so, the space program improved the US' advantage in administration. Process management was pretty much invented during the space program and pushed efficiency in every branch of production and service by magnitudes. It took the rest of the world well into the 80s or even 90s to catch up, until then there was no place on earth, no country, no non-us corporation that could even remotely compete with the efficiency and production output the US could bring to the table. This is the actual benefit from the US space program. And this is also what made the US an industry leader for the better part of the second half of the 20th century.

Maynard Runkle If you dump money on people, what you get is consumption. Not development. And while this would certainly be beneficial for our economy right now because we sorely lack money on the demand side, there isn't really much to be expected from that in terms of development and progress.

@raffisekzenian2746 Hey, don't blame capitalism for its shortcomings. The Apollo program was done by various corporations for NASA and some of these corporations were later merged, and it seems that certain patents are still in dispute, not to mention that apparently record keeping wasn't all that stellar with some of these corporations. NASA's records are pretty good, unfortunately not everything concerning the moonshot belongs to NASA.
