Putin made three critical miscalculations 1) The Ukrainian army was WAY better prepared for his assault than he thought. 2) The Russian army was in a WAY worse condition with WAY more corruption corroding its ability to wage war than he thought. 3) The West didn't just shrug and turn tail as he expected. This was supposed to be a quick war, a raid that should contain a decapitation strike that creates facts within 5 days. On the Tuesday after the invasion (which started on a Thursday), Russia already announced a press conference. That conference never happened. The Russian army stumbled from one blunder to the next, Kherson is just one more.
