It's actually pretty obvious what it is when you think about it... https://xkcd.com/593/

So it's impossible not to break the law anymore. Great. Why again do we bother trying?

There have been many, many claims of it having been translated. So far, all of them (including this one) did not manage to produce a "dictionary" with predictive quality, i.e. what would constitute a real crack of the code. In other words, it will be considered deciphered when you can present a decryption mechanism that can be applied to a part of the book you did not draw your key from. What does NOT work is having to "adjust" your findings with every bit of ciphertext you have. Else what you do is basically inventing a cipher as you move, which, as any cryptographer can tell you, means you can read into it whatever you please.

Nope, sorry. Yes, a lot of information was lost when Europe descended into the dark ages (funny enough, most of what was preserved we owe to the Arabs), but we have since more than recovered. Still, humanity lost about 1500 years of development, that's true.

That's the most recent attempt at deciphering it, probably, but so far I have not seen any conclusive evidence showing that it was actually successful.

Can you point to a single scientist who actually even considers aliens a viable option? It's usually conspiracy nuts that comes up with bullshit like that.
