  1. Subverting expectations has to work and make sense in-universe. Watch 6th sense for a marvellous example of how to subvert everyone's expectations perfectly. What happens there is surprising and an incredibly powerful surprise element, and it fits the whole narrative up to the point of its revelation. Had the revelation been that it's aliens instead that try to take over the earth, yes, that would have been surprising and absolutely unexpected. And it would have been crap because it makes no sense in-universe. And neither does the bullshit in this movie.

  5. There is more than one problem with Admiral Pinko. First of all, commanding something like a ship (and I can only assume it's not that much different for a starship), you are 100% dependent on your bridge crew. If they don't support you, you're done for. These are the people you trust with your life, and that of everyone on board of the ship. You have to. If you don't, replace them. Now. She basically showed off a textbook example of what you can do wrong as a commanding officer in a crisis situation. She did not relief Poe of his duties, she did not inspire confidence in her officers, she did not show them that she has confidence in them, hell, Poe even asked her to tell them that there is a plan and that there is hope, and she refused to do even that. This is kinda like begging for a mutiny.

  6. The sequel trilogy feels like two 5 year olds quarreling in a sandbox how their toys are supposed to play, with Kennedy as the helicopter mom hoovering over them and telling them if they don't play nice RIGHT NOW she's gonna take the toys away.

  7. With the retcon in ROTS, her dramatic sacrifice is now just an attempt to get her ass to safety that went wrong.

  10.  @lekanraposte6732  And they could have had it, all it would have taken is a tiny change in the script. She just could have ordered them to evacuate, then as everyone leaves the bridge, she puts up a force field between her and the others, Poe turns back and asks what it's about, she explains her plan and he just says "So that's why you didn't tell us. You knew I would've thrown you into that escape capsule and done it myself" to which she would have said "yes, but the Resistance needs you more than me now. Now run or you die pointlessly here". That's all it would have taken.
