What really freaked me out was the religiosity. I mean, in my country we have churches literally at every corner of the town, but they're mostly old buildings that are tourist attractions that like the style, they are rarely used anymore for what they were built. In the US, there are likewise churches at every other street corner, but they appear to be new and they are also being frequented by people praying there. This and the idea that creationism is actually a thing. That really freaked me out. It felt like I stepped into some backwater middle east country, not the country I once considered the pinnacle of technological progress.

One thing you want to be certain of is that you address the people by their correct country. This cannot be stressed enough. If you call a Scotsman English, an Austrian German or a Belgian French, be prepared for a fairly chilly response. To you it may seem like no big deal, especially if (like in the case of Scotland and England) you perceive the countries as being the same but trust me, people are VERY sensitive of their heritage and you want to be certain that you address them correctly.

If our own technology is something to consider, then I think we can save ourselves the prep for a hostile alien invasion. Imagine the USA trying to wage war against some stone age tribe in some jungle. It would be about the same, technology-wise. We'd be snuffed out before we even know we're under attack.

US supplies and logistics is legendary. There's this joke that any American assault runs along the lines of "Marines, Navy, Starbucks". I suspect it's more "Marines, Starbucks, everything else". And I'm not entirely sure the Marines come first...
