I am not antinatalist, but I do believe it's weird that having and raising children is such a random affair. Every couple is allowed to have children and we put the responsibility entirely in the hands of these couples. Schools are only allowed to guide a child with math or geography, subjects that are important, but not the most important things in life.
If a school tries to give sex education or teach kids objectively about drugs, the conservative right will protest. If a school tries to teach a kid about self-discipline, how to conform in the current society and that you need to clean your room for example, the anti-authoritarian left will protest. Only child protection services have the power to take a child away from its parents, under very, very strict circumstances. We have this mysterious romantic belief that parents automatically know what is right for their child.
Imagine that we treated bridges like we we treated children. Every random person is allowed to build a bridge over a river. If you ask 'Why?' they say 'Because it's a deeply cherished desire to build bridges!". If you say they are doing it wrong, they say "Well it's my bridge!!! I know how to build a bridge, because it's my bridge. Fuck off." Only when the bridges collapse the government is allowed to step in. Imagine how nonsensical that would be.
