@karthika560 Nope. The situation has been aggravated lately by a combination of the fertiliser policy and the covid pandemic. Sri Lanka depends to a large extent on tourism which was completely wiped out. Due to the country having a smaller economy the ill effects are felt more severely like a small boat in a storm. Not to forget India has one of highest number of people living below poverty level. Consequently prior to the crisis proportionately more Srilankans enjoyed a higher standard of living than India.

@karthika560 Cast your jaundiced eye around - in case you haven't noticed even the developed countries of Europe, America and Asia are feeling the effects of the tourism crisis. But because the economy of Sri Lanka is comparatively much smaller and fragile it has been affected more severely. What makes you think India's standard of living is anything great? There is a big chunk of the population in the country which lies below the radar and the poverty level who doesn't count for anything. In case you have forgotten (selective memory ) lakhs of Indian farmers have died over the past few years due to starvation. Obviously they do not make up for the standard of living of the country. Do you know how many people have died in Sri Lanka due to malnutrition and starvation ? Pseudo patriotism doesn't permit us to acknowledge our own shortcomings. At least they don't commit genocide by starvation there.

@karthika560 Are you aware of the lakhs of Indian farmers who have died of starvation in the past so many years and continue to do so. They never heard of a standard of living. There is an entire segment of population in India which do not count for anything who live below poverty line - people have completely forgotten about them . How many people have died in Sri Lanka due to starvation? At least they don't commit genocide in SL by starvation. Your pseudo patriotism comes from smug ignorance.

@karthika560 You're a cuckoo. Debt and crop failures shouldn't lead to starvation. Farmers around the world face crop failures ; that doesn't mean they die in lakhs. What sort of weird logic is that ! And if India is a big country so is China which has done a better job of improving their GDP per capita with a bigger population. And if you can't do a decent job don't comment on other countries. At least Srilankans (farmers) haven't died so far whatever the adverse conditions. Learn to take care of your farmers like other humanitarian countries do. They are not expendable.
