Indeed Camilla and Charles were soulmates, but Charles should either have married Camilla, or showed some integrity by not marrying Diana and just remain a bachelor childless, rather than to break the heart of a beautiful and hopeful young woman. There are lines of sucession, so I''my sure the Royal Family would have found some other king after Charles's death.
