  3. I remember when SOTUs were given by a president alone. No bells and whistles, or distractions of people sitting in chairs behind him, no hysterical cheerleaders in front of him. Back then a president commanded some respect and dignity as a result. I think I remember with Eisenhower. Didn't JFK have his SOTU as a Fireside Chat? Today the SOTU is just another chance for a circus. I don't remember how Trump's SOTU was. I assume he had one. But the old ways were the best. No Circus Maximus was in town.
