They were stopped from removing the tiara by Queen Elizabeth's dressmaker. Who's to say what plot could have been afoot over that little escapade? I have seen all the Pink Panther movies. Considering the type of people these two attract (especially Markle), any type of plot could go forward regarding the diamonds in a tiara in a hotel room.
