  3. Sounds like she doesn't tell the child anything. She asks, and the child knows the difference.

  4. I was on an overnight train once, and the lady across the isle had a 6yo child with her. At the start of the trip, she said to him "Now, if you misbehave, I'm going to get that man there to smack you", pointing at me. I looked at him fair and square and said "And smack really hard". He didn't scream like this once.
