Sometimes there's a cost for standing your ground and demanding your rights. In such situations, you need to choose whether you're prepared to wear this cost. I think David chose poorly. It I were in his position, and had nothing to hide, I'd simply let the look in my bag, and they'd let me on my way. The best way to get them to treat you like a criminal is to act like one. The reverse is also true.
