One thing that needs to be made clear, is by the time the battle of the Philippines happened, japan's aces were so depleted to me, that the majority of the japanese pilots we're green, an undertrained. Unlike the allies who like to bring their aces back to train the next generation, japan preferred keeping theirs out on the front lines.
