Once you start talking about engineering disasters, I would love to hear your opinion about the USS Maine explosion.

@witeshade the truth is a three edged sword. There's their side, there's our side, and then there's the truth. Engineering facts will always be what is true. Interpretation of those facts is a whole different story.

@abrahamdozer6273 I would love to hear his opinion on the subject though. From what I understand it was a cordite explosion. The insulation that use between the coal bunker and ammunition room which were right next to each other was corkwood. Coal bunker fires were not an unusual event.

@abrahamdozer6273 well considering that this was part of my history classes when I was going to high school I know full well what was going down. Because the technology was so new however, they had the perfect excuse to say that it may have been a mine set by the Spanish. Cuba in fact however wanted to be a free Nation from Spain. There were quite a few people in America who also won the same thing, however American never could fully find a plausible reason to get involved. The main however gave them the perfect instance.

@abrahamdozer6273 I'm not justifying any of it believe me. All I'm interested in is the engineering perspective on the disaster. I am but a simple man, who enjoys history of engineering, and Naval History. There are very few Wars that I will say we're Justified. The Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II rank up there as the three top ones that are Justified. The rest are fragments of history that we can learn from so that we don't repeat it. And I believe the word you were looking for with interventions. I'm sure he had problems with the auto correct LOL I have it all the time. Thank you for the conversation though, I really do appreciate this. I just wish more people could have a conversation and stay away from calling each other names in this day and age like you and me.
