  1. The first PCs had to have adapter cards to have video output. Those cards had chips on them that could be considered GPUs although display adapters could only produce text. So GPUs were a thing at the very beginning. It took almost 10 years from introduction for CPUs to reach 100 MHz. The first PC was only 4.77 MHz.
