Welding with locking pliers tends to destroy them. I'm pretty sure the heat ruins any heat treatment the jaws may have had. So I only weld with trashed locking pliers. For mechanical work I keep other pairs.

@clambino7980 pride comes before the fall. At $44 a pair their tools can't be flying off the shelves. Even if they are the best.

@carterscustomrods I think Peterson pliers always had a knurled adjusting bolt in them. But the thread pitches used are standard SAE so a lost bolt could be replaced with another one. I just checked a pair of 10WRs here and it is 7/16x14 thread. Which is common hardware. Maybe not the most common pitch though. Can still get it in any hardware store. Or maybe out of a coffee can of random hardware in a garage?

@carlmccoy662 with all the Vise Grips I have now my crying days are behind me. And yeah they're all old ones made in the USA. I was getting 10WRs off Harbor Freight for like $5.79 a pair. Every order I'd just throw another pair on it.

@JerryAtrick83 good used bench grinders are pretty rare to find. If they're any good folks tend to hang onto them. So what you mostly run into are lousy bench grinders people are just trying to get rid of by sticking someone else with them. Although there are certainly exceptions. Some of my favorite bench grinders I have are arbor grinders I put together myself. Arbors and motors you can run across from time to time. Then you have to be a bit handy to assemble them. But you can end up with something decent. I saw a table saw at the curb the other day that someone could have turned into a grinder. They have arbors in them. I passed on it because I already have two table saws. I was proud of myself for not dragging it home. But for a moment the thought did cross my mind. I have too many projects now I need to finish.

I clean and lube the screws in my Vise Grips too. Got to have that smooth action.

I like my old Bacho 8073 adjustable wrench. Not sure if they're still as good today.

@leemarchant7191 Snap-On owns Bacho now. Was originally a Swedish company. My Bacho has Made in Sweden forged into it. It's probably over 30 years old too though. When Germans want good tools they go talk to the Swedes.
