A smoke wrench.

I got a flat belt grinding arbor that I worked on for about a year. It was my grandfather's and he didn't get it new. Then it sat in his damp cellar doing nothing for decades before I inherited it. About once a week I'd spray it up and heat it with a propane torch. Put a wrench on it and tap the wrench with a hammer. Then spray it up some more and let it sit. It's on the top right in this picture http://i.imgur.com/NPvxnch.jpg I wanted to change that flat belt pulley to a V belt that I could drive. I made that frame custom to sit right where it is.

Preparation is the key to success.

PB used to be amazing. But years ago they changed the formulation to something less noxious. I remember using PB long ago in the cab of a truck and I thought I was going to hurl it smelled so foul. But back then it was the next best thing to glowing the hardware up cherry red then busting it loose with an impact drive.

Once they took the poison out PB became run of the mill. Pretty much everything effective is toxic. Just like how most fun things are bad for you. Same deal.

I spent a year once loosening up one mechanism. It was an old flat belt arbor that was who knows how old. It could have been 150 years old? It sat in a damp cellar for a long time before I started working on it too. So don't tell me 3 hours is not real world. Stuff didn't rust up overnight so it won't always come apart so quickly either. That's the real world.

I saw one test and Frog Lube came out on top. But FL is so expensive and such a pain to apply I don't think it is the best. WD-40 is a lot cheaper, worked almost as good and you can just spray it on. Prevention isn't much good if you're not using it.

You could tell your friend to drive the car like a rented mule like he always does then get on the hardware while it is hot. But be careful because everything will be hot then.

PB Blaster about 30 years ago was amazing. Then about 20 years ago they reformulated it. In an enclosed space PB used to just about knock me out. I don't know what was in it, but it was nasty. Now it is not like that anymore. PB don't work nearly as good either.

You're the Snap-Off man.

Liquid Stench as we all used to call it never impressed me.
