A 15 Ah Dewalt Flexvolt battery only costs $379. So yeah why not?

@231pilot I have a 35 year old chainsaw and all I've ever done was dump fuel and bar oil into it. It's had some hot supper days too. I've only cut up maybe a half a dozen full trees with it in the time I've had it. But every one of those trees took a day of cutting. A long day where the saw ran for hours on end. Plus I've dropped limbs with it too. Done storm clean up. That saw has done far more than it ever should have. The most I ever did to it was clean the spark plug.

@BH4x0r you never pay retail? I know your type.

@billz4071 the batteries have control electronics in them that make sure you can't overload or under volt them. That's the control it has. All of that is monitored. With a chip that costs pennies. In quantity it might even be less than a penny. What times we live in.

That run time is a deal breaker. When I'm working I don't need beat the clock pressure on me on top of everything else. 6 to 15 minutes of run time just doesn't cut it for me. Those batteries cost hundreds of dollars too. So buying more of those is an expensive option.

Yeah but rats like the soy based wire insulation too. Yum yum eat 'em up.

@ddjohnson9717 there's different kinds of electric motors. Some are more long lived than others are. These tools have brushless motors in them so they don't have brushes or commutators that can wear out but they are electronically commutated. That hardware is subject to failure too. When it does fail it is beyond most to repair it. Even if they could get the parts. Electronic commutation is just complicated. No user serviceable parts inside indeed.

I doubt they make them. They more likely have some other company make them and have their name slapped on it.

@Sashazur how do you evaluate the most important features too? It's not like Amazon or Google are going to tell you how they're harvesting all of your data. What's happening to your social credit score, etc. You'd have to be out of your mind to install any of their systems.

Those batteries are instant death because they are electronically shut down by the control circuitry inside of them. The voltage regulator will just switch off. It is switching on and off all the time while it is regulating anyways. So the last off is the permanent off. There is a minimum safe voltage to drain a lithium ion cell to before it is damaged. Once that set point is reached the battery will shut itself down to protect itself.

You have 6 minutes to finish. Go! Aww you didn't quite make it. That'll be $300 for another battery for you.
