  5. While what you say is true we can see from this that the failure point is the frames themselves. I've tweaked countless C clamps in my lifetime. Hammered some of them back into shape too. There's nothing more annoying than a clamp where the pads don't line up anymore.

  6. Just about every C clamp is made out of malleable cast iron. So that'd be almost everyone.

  8. There's plenty of times where I could have used a mongo clamp. Instead I just ended up twisting the clamps I do have. The people that really need that sort of thing are willing and able to pay for it too. They probably buy those clamps by the gross.

  12. There's a couple times when I could have used that heavy clamp and just ended up bending the clamps I do have. Usually not woodworking though. Trying to get brake caliper pistons back in is a popular one. If you can't that means you have to buy new calipers.

  14. It was a drag test. A bit confusing. Lower numbers are better. Todd was testing how good the bearing of the swivels were. As in you want the swivel to actually swivel.

  16. It depends on what kind of a paint job you're looking for how much the brush you use matters. If you want a smooth finish then yes the brush you use does matter. But you do have to take good care of good paint brushes. As in you have to clean them after you use them. You really have to clean them. Like with hot water and soap. A quality brush actually improves with age. It is an investment. But if you're OK with brush strokes and hairs in the paint then get the cheap ones and use them and throw them away when you're done.

  19. The Tommy bar is part of the clamp. So it gets tested with the tool. Companies do have the option of beefing up what their products are made out of.

  21. What you're talking about is called a Tommy bar. That's what they're called. And hey if your Tommy bar doesn't measure up then that can be an issue. Should have thought about that when you made the clamps.

  22.  @MAGGOT_VOMIT  I've used name brand Kant Twist clamps and twisted them up like pretzels. But I used them to clamp together 20 foot long bars of steel. We used them with the break down saw to hold the bars together on the roller table. We'd cut bars that looked like 2x4s and we'd clamp 4 together at a time. If it fit in the saw that's how many we did.

  24. When something absolutely has to be watertight I use 3M below the waterline sealant. Otherwise I use the cheapest crap I can get.

  25. Whenever I see C clamps being sold used and they're a good price I usually pick them up. Because when you need a C clamp it's handy to have a C clamp.

  26. Mangling C clamps is a fairly common occurrence in the world of doing things. I know I've bent a few in my lifetime. As ridiculous as that one heavy duty clamp is I can see use cases for it.

  31.  @ahmednasrulla4766  I don't use my safety pliers much but there's not much on them that looks like it can break. There's no ratchet just a twisted piece that makes them spin. I pull up on the knob and the pliers spin.

  32. The name is a bit deceptive though because they most definitely can twist. We'd wreck those in the machine shop I worked in. But we used them pretty hard.

  36.  @2packs4sure  I see it turning around someday when everything is automated. Then the cost of labor won't be a factor anymore. Likely mass production will be a thing of the past then and everything will be custom made. Though I suppose there'll always be something mass produced. For the proles.

  38. The test is fair. The Tommy bar is part of the tool so it gets tested as it is.

  39.  @R2_D3  the tools are being tested as they are supposed to be used. The Wilton is made to be used with a tool to tighten it. The rest are made to be tightened by hand. I'm sure the people that use that Wilton use a wrench and a hammer to set it. It really should not have been in the test. It isn't really a C clamp. Works a lot like a C clamp though. It is actually a bridge clamp. Least that's what everyone that uses them calls it.
