Goddard was a Yankee. All liquid fueled rocket tech was based on his work too. Including what the Germans did.

26 billion dollars would perk even Brandon's ears up. The Big Guy wants 10%.

@dalethelander3781 they'd better push the schedule up with the SLS being as relations are so poor with the Russians now. Perhaps we can divert some of the money we're flushing down in Ukraine? I do not see that investment paying any dividends. But then again my last name isn't Biden either.
3
They tried making them but they all had cracks.
2
Yeah well we didn't have an unlimited amount of time to complete the project. The end of the decade was coming fast. Second place is just the first loser. It's from zero to hero!
1
The USA is concerned about earthly matters.
1
Historical tidbits and hysterical idiots.
1
That's smart. Destroy the evidence before the crime. Assembly line? What assembly line? I don't see any assembly line here. You've got the wrong place, Bub.
1
Yeah there were, until they weren't.
1
@WALTERBROADDUS I remember when Skylab burnt up. That was cool. Everyone was trying to figure out where it'd land. I think it ended up in the Indian Ocean? How about that, we hit Australia with it too apparently. They were real sports taking one for the team like they did. Payback for them losing our mission tapes I suppose.
1
The astronauts were pretty nuts to go on those missions. It's not something I could do.
1
I think a lot of folks realized it'd never be them. Once you realize that you just can't be so invested in it then either. Then it's something that others are doing and you never will.

The Space Race was a historical anomaly. A very specific set of circumstances brought it about that no longer exist today. It happened because it had to happen. Not because it should have happened. We did what we had to do to maintain global dominance. Our space program was a propaganda mission to that end. Putting humans in space is a dog and pony show. Look, we put people in space. Be suitably impressed.
1
@WALTERBROADDUS without an American rocket scientist Germans would have done nothing. Robert Goddard invented the liquid rocket. All the Germans credited his work for inspiring them too.

Jim Lovell always seemed like a chill guy.
1
Neil could have done it upside down flying a cast iron bed. The Iceman got it done no matter what.
1
Vietnam man. Right on!
1
A much different time than now. Would you have believed then that we'd have no way to get astronauts in space now?
1
Spaceflight was a very exclusive thing that average people couldn't relate to. It's hard to be interested in something you'll never be a part of.
1
I'm pretty sure they died.
1
It's OK that it happened. Mistakes do happen. It's not OK that the mistake wasn't caught before flight. What matters is how you handle mistakes.
1
What we have today was filmed by a camera pointed at a monitor at the tracking station. They had no way of transcribing the signal at the time to a broadcast compatible format. Then the original telemetry tape was somehow erased. How better care wasn't taken of it I do not know. It was only the most important journey mankind ever made. You only go to the Moon first once.
1
@bobcastro9386 yeah I'm sure no one took a pay cut though. What you call a hard decision I'd call a poor one. But I expect no more from government employees. They cause problems then cause more problems with their lousy solutions. I guess that's job security.
1
There's a Saturn 1B in the rocket garden at the Cape. It's laying down.
1
They did it with Nazi Die Glocke technology!
1
The NWO globalists want to destroy the USA. American citizens interfere with their plans. We set a bad example. Not like the good little Foxconn employees.
1
@RockinRobbins13 that would be the The World Economic Forum. Klaus Schwab is a very real individual. Perhaps you should be a bit more informed? You can laugh all the way to the UN staffed FEMA camp you'll be liquidated at. In the meantime go get another booster shot. Avoid the rush! Agenda 21 awaits you. 2030 will be here before you know it.
1
That's not how it was received.
1
@dalethelander3781 if that is the case then it fits right in with the present administration's economic policies. Remember, The Big Guy gets 10%! Did you hear what that chicken head Kamala just said to the Space Force? More like space farce. https://youtu.be/vauVw45rNm0?t=106
1
@MrCellophane60613 well that's you. It does not serve America's interests to defend Ukraine though. We have our own domestic totalitarian megalomaniacs to worry about here.
1
N1s flew. Just not very long or far. Least they didn't cook as many as R-16s did.
1
It was pretty exciting at the time. But as fast as it happened it died out too.
1
At its peak 10% of the US workforce was in some way connected to the Apollo mission. So yeah a lot of folks knew someone that worked on Apollo in some often obscure way. Even if we didn't exactly know.
1
@hubbsllc was something I read someplace. It isn't surprising considering the scale of Apollo and how government contracts are awarded. Basically if you want the funds allocated you have to promise enough politicians their district will get work out of it. Houston we have a budget problem. Ever wonder why they launched from Florida but mission control was in Texas? Texas wanted to get paid too!
1
@andyharman3022 an amazing coincidence!
1
Seven eight nine.
1
They all almost failed. Spaceflight remains an iffy thing even today.
