If you think welding stainless is bad try tapping the stuff.

The X-51 is the fastest aircraft ever produced. It goes 6 times the speed of sound. That makes a MIG-25 look like it is standing still.

Stainless steel cold work hardens so the job gets more difficult with insufficient feed. Right up to nigh on impossible if you really get a good case hard layer going. The trick then is to jamb feed to break through the hardened layer and dig into the ductile material underneath. The overall trick is to just use a heavy feed to avoid hardening the work. Cut it, don't beat it! Bust your ass right out of the gate or you'll be busting your ass all day long. Your choice.

George Washington Carver didn't even invent peanut butter. Africans did invent slavery though. So they got that going for them.

@corymcgrath5652 yeah well taps break if you don't break chips. So tapping stainless you're damned if you stop and damned if you keep going. You're screwed either way.

@corymcgrath5652 stainless needs a heavy feed drilling it. Which can make for an issue when using small diameter tools that don't have the column strength to handle a heavy feed.

@corymcgrath5652 stainless is an alloy with unique properties that lend themselves to rare challenges working with it. You could say the stuff just isn't normal.

Stainless steel is horrible to work with. I'll give it that.
