  1. +Kyle Davis a lot of traffic is down to human psychology, and reaction times. Before an entrance people will speed up, then once they get past it, ahead of the suckers trying to get on, they'll slow down. If people can see traffic ahead of them they'll instinctively slow down a little then too. That tiny slow down ripples back in traffic. Each driver has to slow down more, and more. Eventually you get people having to stop, and you have stopped traffic. Now when you're driving on a highway watch for these things. You'll see that people really are idiots.
