  3. @David McGoat if only that were true it wouldn't be as bad as it is. Unfortunately now the debt is so high that tax revenues are not even keeping up with interest payments. So the government just makes free money out of thin air to pay for things. Which of course incurs more debt. It's like when you give a teenager a credit card. And never tell them to use it wisely. Or more like your problem child mugged someone and stole their credit card. And now they're out using it before it gets canceled. Yeah it's more like that actually.

So when an event occurs there are going to be more people impacted by it. A lot of really dumb people packed into places they have no right to be. Which is a recipe for disaster.

More realistically less than half that. Somewhere on the order of 60K years. That's still the Stone Age then too. As far as human histories go China has a long one. You're still talking little more than 4,000 years though. Which is on par with when the Great Pyramid was built. The calamitous activities China has engaged in are all recent. Modern stuff. Post Cultural Revolution.

  23.  @julianmancini6798  I am not sure if there was always more dry land than there is now. When there was the most dry land the conditions were not prime for our survival then either. Was a bit cold then. Our ancestors almost went extinct during the Ice Age. Scientists named the event the great bottleneck. They traced the genome and determined we were down to 200 breeding pairs. If there was an endangered species list our ancestors would have been on it for sure. In light of that perhaps global warming isn't the worst thing after all?

  28. For as long as we can figure the climate on this planet has always changed. Either with us or without us. No one ever got a written guarantee that this period of unusually temperate weather would persist. The rise of our species was due to climate change. Otherwise our ancestors never would have swung down from the trees. But as it warmed up and forests thinned out they had no choice. When they ate all the fruit in the tree they were in they had to get on the ground and walk to another tree. The rest is as they say prehistory.

  36. The US federal government is kind of like a vampire. It cannot come in unless it is invited. It's really in the name of the country. The United States of America. Each state is sovereign. Means each state rules itself. We come together for common goals. But every state has its own government and constitution. None owe fealty to the federal government either. It don't work that way at all. The office of president is very weak within the borders of the USA.

  40. That was a Ukrainian armored vehicle. It didn't have Russian battle markings on it. If there isn't a white letter on it then it ain't Russian. BTW the missile that struck that apartment complex was an anti aircraft missile launched by the Ukrainians too. So the only ones targeting civilians are the Ukrainians.

  42. Looked like a gas explosion to me. High explosive blasts don't make fireballs. Movie explosions use gas bags. That's what this was like. Except instead of a bag it was a house. The guy cut a gas line and let the place fill with gas then set it off with a flare. Whole house gas explosions are pretty impressive. That's precisely what you're seeing here.
