If the ocean were whiskey and I was a duck I'd swim to the bottom and drink my way up!
80
@Nujabesme some Irish Whiskey is pretty good so I can't say the event lies outside my imagination. I mean just a river flowing in the street. It must be what Irish heaven is like.
15
Sure you can. It is called doing flaming shots.
6
They X-Rayed it.
2
Explosives are explosive because they contain their own catalysts.
2
My guess is to an airport where he kept his plane.
2
There was no way to defuse that bomb. The bomber lied. Well actually they said they couldn't defuse it. Then they lied and said they could. But really there was no way to disarm it.

Titanium is conductive. Any kind of drill bit likely would have disturbed the foil and made it complete the connection.
1
Sure but when it cuts through there's no guarantee the foil layers won't contact. Just a momentary contact could trip a relay that detonates the device. It's called amplification. A small signal is made into a larger one.
1
Hey invading small countries is the CIA's job!
1
The bomb was not armed until it had been delivered.
1
The device was disarmed until it was placed into position. The first rule of successful bomb making is make sure the device doesn't go off ahead of time.
1
There may have been another timer that armed the bomb. Or you pre arm it and it isn't fully armed until the pendulum stops triggering for a set period of time.
1
Those are some huge rocks of crack. Bush knew how to party.
1
Removing the cover may have activated the device.
1
No you wouldn't. Batteries are not susceptible to magnetic fields.
1
Some Irish whiskey is worth taking a bit of a risk to get.
1
It wouldn't have mattered if they paid it. There was no way to defuse the bomb. Why would anyone leave that much evidence intact? It was always going to blow up.
1
@oskarrasmussen7137 anyone crazy enough to plant a bomb is crazy enough to blow a bomb up.
1
Oil is not nearly as explosive as some explosives are.
1
They armed the bomb once they'd delivered it.
1
A real bomb destroys the evidence when it explodes. That's why you use a real bomb. They go boom. A fake bomb you have to worry they'll somehow manage to glean some evidence from. Some DNA or something.

You haven't pried much stuff that's been welded together apart, have you?
1
Radical slide.
1
Today they'd freeze it making the battery inert. A battery is a chemical device. The chemistry doesn't work below a certain temperature. Get it to -60 or so and it's not setting anything off. So they blanket the bomb with insulation and pump liquid nitrogen onto it. The cold is the kill switch. They freeze it to death.
1
You miss the part where he was a millionaire?
1
How are you going to get that something inside the bomb? It was completely sealed up.
1
There was no way to defuse the bomb so paying the ransom would accomplish nothing. Once that bomb was armed it was going off. This was a crime motivated by revenge. Getting the money was just a nice bonus, or perhaps a distraction?
1
What combination? You didn't believe there was any way to actually defuse the bomb, did you? It is illegal for criminals to profit off crime. So any profits of any book you wrote would be seized by the state and redistributed to your victims.
1
@HolyPastrami Well either way no one had any idea if it was armed or not. You going to try moving it to find out? If I'm running try to keep up.
1
I don't think it was ever about the money.
1
Gallium is conductive and no one said the case was made out of aluminum.
1
How can you lift it? It's inside a building.
1
@zentricityz8784 I have to ask, how many holes have you cut into concrete decking? There's just not the time to do all the work. You'd be lucky to just lay it out before the bomb went off. It looked to me like that bomb was about 10 floors down into the building. OK but let's say you did manage to cut all the holes. Now you want to suspend the bomb on the end of a long cable? Yeah that won't swing around much. Yes it will! That'd be the ultimate game of Operation trying to thread that bomb through all of those holes. 10D Operation! Yeah not gonna happen. Nope what they did was the only realistic play they had. Just set a charge on it and hope for the best. Sure the bomb went off but at least no one got hurt. Your plan there's hundreds of potential victims involved. Even best case someone's bound to get hurt.
1
It is like the accident at the distillery where Flanigan fell into a vat of whiskey. Three coworkers jumped in to try to rescue him but he valiantly fought them all off.
1
Yeah good luck taking the FBI to court.
1
Yeah but the bomb was always going to go off. There was no real way to defuse it. Flipping the switches wouldn't have done it. That was a lie. Likely one of the switches would have detonated it.
1
Concrete takes 28 days to achieve its rated strength. It sounds to me like you're just creating a big pipe bomb.
1
What happens in Xichang stays in Xichang.
1
The Planet of the Apes bomb was a salted device. It did not blow up the whole world. It merely poisoned it. You detonate a fusion bomb inside a cobalt jacket and that poisons the whole planet's atmosphere. Kills all life on the planet. It's a mythical doomsday device. There are various legends of it existing. It's a my bat and my ball kind of a thing. If we don't play my way then no one plays.
1
The bomb was armed once it had been delivered.
1
I imagine one of the switches armed the bomb and others detonated it. There was no way to shut it down either. The bomber always wanted the bomb to detonate no matter what. That was part of the plan from the beginning. Bombers gonna bomb.
1
Arming the device after it has been delivered is the best guess.
