The price difference for higher end HF brands isn't that much compared to name brand tools to really warrant the purchase. I guess if you have to count every penny then maybe but there's other ways to save.

I have the Harbor Freight black oxide M2 129 piece index that I bought for $29.99 many years ago and it is still going strong today. But I do know how to drill holes and sharpen bits. Those are skills many lack. Good paintbrushes are worth the investment unless you're using them for something other than painting.

How are drill bits expendable? I have drill bits from decades ago. When they get dull I just sharpen them. If there's the barest twist left in a drill it's going to get sharpened. That includes bits that snap in half. The other half is still good.

@mikes1345 sharpening a twist drill is a useful skill. Knowing some things will make the process easier. Sharpen on a well dressed grinding wheel. Know the geometry. Test as you go. Having sharp bits all the time is nice.

Harbor Freight is going more upscale today with their premium house brands. I think they're getting too big for their britches with those though. For what that stuff costs you might as well get known name brands.

I got a COB LED flashlight from Harbor Freight and the driver IC in it crapped out. Phucking POS! So I just took the head of it off and hooked a wall wart up to it. Now it's a task light on my mill. Still I'd rather if it was still a flashlight. They don't sell that particular flashlight anymore. I wonder why.

I cannot say that I've never been totally disappointed with some things I've bought at Harbor Freight. A lot of their corded hand electric tools are a complete waste of money. I bought a jig saw off of them and the blade holder broke in it so I welded that back together then the speed controller blew up in my hand while I was using the tool. Finally the scintered gear in the tool broke and that was the end of it. That tool wasn't even cheap. It was a Bosch copy at more than half the price of a Bosch tool. Now I have a Bosch jig saw and it's never given me a lick of trouble. Buy once cry once.

I've shot about 50K nails out of a 18 gauge brad nailer I bought at HF maybe more. Then it finally crapped out. So I took it apart, cleaned the cylinder out, lubed it and put it back together. Now it's running like new again. I love that gun. It has no safety on it at all. You pull the trigger it's going to fire a nail. I hate those damned nose safeties.

What kind of intimidation tactics can they use? You can tell them to go take a walk. Then make videos about their asinine behavior to boot.

7/9" angle grinders tend to be brutes. But using one to grind masonry it is not long for this world. That dust is pretty abrasive so it wrecks bearings.
