Don't worry about writing viruses onto your flash drive if it has a live image on it. The partition is just the size of the image. So there are zero free bytes available to write to. Any virus would have to re-partition the drive before it saved itself. Plus live images can check their integrity too. So if one bit is out of place the check sum will fail.

***** people fear what they do not understand. There's plenty about Linux that most folks don't understand too.

+Dude Slick I think Ubuntu might automatically mount partitions it finds in live images. It has been a while since I've run it. I've actually never run it on a system that had Windows installed either. Well, I might have, but I can't remember now what the state of mounts was on boot. I generally do not have access to PCs with Windows on it. That is a problem I usually fix fairly quickly. Windows infestation. BTW Linux root kits generally install, and replace programs without user's knowledge. They'll replace stuff like ps, so you cannot see the crack software running on your system.

Propane TreeFiddy All you have to do is check the file sum against the published key. Then as long as you're using a legitimate trusted distribution you should be OK.
